Additional Notes: A HUGE Thank You goes out to the Halifax RCMP for going above and beyond (Brrr…) to save this sweet senior dog: Shortly after midnight on February 10, 2016, Halifax District RCMP responded to a call from a concerned citizen regarding a distressed dog on Highway 7, Lake Echo.

…officers were able to locate a small dog in a partially frozen pond. The dog would not move and it was unclear if the dog was injured or stuck in snow and ice. An officer entered the pond and rescued the dog who was placed immediately into a patrol jacket, used as a blanket.

Officers immediately transported the dog to the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic in Dartmouth for examination. It was determined that the dog was an approximately 10-year-old female Sheltie mix who had been on its own for some time. There was no collar or microchip to identify the dog and the favouring of her hind leg was related to arthritis.

This dog is now safe with Homeward Bound City Pound. It had to be shaved due to the mats and debris stuck in it’s fur probably from being lost for a long period of time. If it’s owners are not located it will be adopted out, but not for at least another two weeks. There is a long waiting list of potential adopters. For now, please share so we can try and find it’s owners, thank you.

Additional Notes: I have only had this dog for a week. She is a brown and white dog with floppy ears and long hair. She looks like a very small sheltie with the added cuteness of some fluffy, fly-away hair that hangs over her eyes a bit. She has one blue eye and one brown eye  I noticed she was very timid. Not long after having her in my care, I realized she was not only timid but acted scared of everything-people, noises and she would even react startled to even the softest sounds. She didnt care for being approached and would cower but was a bit better if I repeatedly said “good girl” as I approached her.  She was starting to come around a bit and even came to the door a few times when I came back in from outside. She did show some excitement when I threw the tennis ball for her and it seemed she would keep fetching and returning it for as long as I was willing to continue throwing it. She must have scratched the door open and managed to squeeze by it. I looked and alerted neighbors but it was dark and today, i did the same plus put out some flyers and no sign of her and no calls. I am very close to the 103 Highway heading south (to Liverpool, Shelburne, Barrington, etc), heading West toward Halifax, one road goes into the town of Bridgewater, the opposite goes through Wileville, Newcombville, eventually The Valley. Heidi-Delaney came from Yarmouth. Any help or suggestions you may be able to offer would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks for your time. Kindest Regards,
Jeanene Crowell
