Praying for Pearl’s safety, wherever, she may be!

If she’s microchipped can’t this dog be traced? Isn’t that the point?

      Hi Eleanor,

Microchips only work when a dog is found and taken to a Vet’s office to be scanned. Or picked up by Animal Control and taken to a shelter to be scanned. Once scanned for a number, the dogs owner’s contact info can be looked up. So, Pearl needs to be found by someone first, before a microchip works. They are excellent for finding your dog once your dog is in the system. Microchips are not like a gps collar which allows you to track down your dog’s location. These are still cost prohibitive for most people. Thank you.
