UPDATE: 1.15.13 – SIGHTING: Thursday January 10, 2013: From the Owner – “This afternoon we had a call from folks who live across the road from the Oakfield Park Road. Late last week (Thursday?) they recalled seeing a small black dog that they did not recognize (and which seemed to be alone) running through the small field between the road and the Anglican Church. At the time they did not know that Coal was missing because they had not seen the posters. If this dog was Coal it gives us some hope that she wasn’t taken by an animal on Wednesday evening. Let’s hope that we get a fresh sighting soon!!”

Just wondering if Coal has been found. We leave in Oakfield and are just concerned about the little guy.

Not yet, we’re thrilled that you are from the neighbourhood… we need folks to know that she may be hiding under a deck, or in an outbuilding… please check your yards for any signs, and take a flash light to look carefully under decks, buildings, etc. Thank you so much for your interest. Is there a community facebook page? If you know of anywhere please just cut and paste the link to her post so that more people know about her… the more folks that know, the more eyes looking for her, the better chance for a happy ending. Thanks, Ann M

was wondering where oakfield was located my sister has a dog and it looks exactly like coal but she bought her in yarmouth i just cant get over how much they look alike

When did shy buy her dog? Location doesn’t really matter as someone could have picked up here, (Waverley, outside of Halifax is where Oakfield Park is located) and took her somewhere else to sell. That is very typical of a dog broker like Gail Benoit who lives in Waverley and is from Digby way. This would be amazing if it was her…

Correction to add Dog is 9 lbs. Anyone in the area around Oldfield could you please watch and check around sheds ,barns, porches etc. as the dog may be hiding seeking shelter from the cold. She may be in survival mode so may not come if called. She especially likes beef so could be enticed with the scent of some kind of beef. Thanks to all who have been looking. Additional phone numbers are 883 9448 and 981 8149.

The facebook page is Grand Lake Oakfield Historical Society.. I will share with the creator and ask them to post…
If the ice was froze on that day in the cove, you might want to spread the word the Beaver Bank Area.. or Enfield. The man the looks after the historical page is an active member at the church and a lot of the congregation live on the park road..I will ask that he spread the word.. I know you probably have spoke to those folks.. but it won’t hurt to remind them.

Barend Kamperman has duplicated the poster and is going to show it around at church this morning during social time. The posters in the community are great… I am sure that you have checked the barns at the Farm..but my Dad was back there on Wednesday night and noticed a light on in the Pig Barn which he thought was odd.. I figured it was one of you looking… I hope today turns something up.

What does the bark sound like? There was something on our property tonight that was small looking but couldn’t see it because it was at the end of my driveway.

    • Ann submitted this update

Thank you Jessika, I’ve forwarded your sighting to the owners, but if you don’t hear from them please feel free to call Brent and report this info to him: 229-2830 They’re out looking almost constantly, so he may not be checking here that often. He will need to know your address, thank you so much… if you get a chance please check under your decks, in your yard and outbuildings … she is most likely hiding. Ann Morrison

Jessika, Coal has a bark like a terrier dog. Kind of high pitched. She will wine with 3 little ooo, ooo, ooo’s Something like that.

      • marsha vanslyke submitted this update

One way to get Coal to bark is to make a psssst sound and say kitty, where’s the kitty? No matter where she is she always responds to this with a bark. If she is in the house but we are not sure exactly where this will work every time.

I stopped by the area next to the church next to Oakfield Park today to check out fresh dog prints but the paw prints were those of a larger dog. While I was standing in the parking lot, I could hear the barking of a small dog as well as a larger one; but of course these could be dogs that are already owned in the community.
